About Imago

Imago Relationship Therapy, a model of therapy developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., founder of the Institute for Imago Relationship Therapy, recognizes that the inherent nature of human beings is what Jung described as a "push towards wholeness". That wholeness contains Maslow's qualities of a self actualized person: spontaneity and creativity, acceptance of self and others, an ability to tolerate and even welcome uncertainty in life, a need to have both solitude and deep intense relationships, a sense of humor, caring and compassion for others, inner direction, and an open and fresh attitude toward life.

Throughout our development as human beings, that wholeness is fragmented through experiences in relationship with our caretakers and results in a significant impact on the choice of a marriage or relationship partner and the dynamics of all our relationships in adulthood. The ultimate goal of the work that couples do in Imago Relationship Therapy is to assist each other in repairing the wounded or injured aspects of that original state, and to reclaim the whole self that can more passionately and vibrantly express itself in life and in relationship.

Learning Objectives of the Clinical Training Program

Participants will be able to:

1. Discuss childhood stages of development and wounding as well as resulting characterological adaptations in primary relationships.
2. Discuss the concept of the imago and the role it plays in partner selection and subsequent stages of adult relationships.
3. Discuss the concept of the imago and the role it plays in partner selection and subsequent stages of adult relationships.  
4. Work with a couple's resistance, flow with it and keep volatile couples in dialogue.
5. Demonstrate dialogical skills to assist couples in restructuring conflict and frustration, resolving adult and childhood rage, bringing them into a healing relationship, and guiding them from unconscious to conscious relating (moving them from reactivity to intentionality).
6. Demonstrate skills to assist couples in increasing validation and empathy and achieve a deeper level of commitment and intimacy.
7. Focus on their own personal characterological growth and thus be more able to deepen client's affect, getting them in touch with childhood pain, and thus helping them find healing in the adult intimate relationship.
8. Empower couples to continue the work of healing after therapy is terminated.

FACT A and FACT B Trainings

Session 1, 2, and 3 are each 4-days long, for a total of 12 days.  Another Option for this training course is for therapists who would like a sample of Imago Relationship Therapy, but are not sure if they want to continue the entire Certification Process.  We offer Session 1, (the first 4 training days) separated into two shorter segments.  The first 2 days we call FACT A Training.  The second 2 days we call FACT B Training.  The fee for each of these trainings is $295.  If you complete both FACT A and FACT B trainings, you would only need to complete Sessions 2 and 3 to continue the certification process.  FACT stands for Flexible Access Clinical Training.

REGISTER FOR THE BASIC CLINICAL TRAINING   Click here to complete this process first.  This link will take you to a registration page where you can download the information you need to begin the application process.

Step 2

PAY AND REGISTER WITH IMAGO RELATIONSHIPS INTERNATIONAL

Click here to open the online training catalog to locate the course you desire with Maya Kollman.  When you find the course you would like to attend, click the Register Now button.  You will be able to register and pay Imago Relationships International the $750 fee online.  When you have completed this step, proceed to Step Three to pay Maya Kollman the balance of your tuition.

Step 3

Click the Pay Now button to pay Maya Kollman the balance of your tuition, $2250 for Sessions 1, 2, and 3.  Maya offers an Option of 3 Installment Payments of $750, $750, and $750.  Each Installment Payment is due before each one of the 3 Training Sessions.

If you have completed the FACT A or FACT B training, and want to continue the Certification process with Maya Kollman, the remaining fee for Sessions 2 and 3 is $2410.  The fee of $2410 is broken down as follows:  You must first register with Imago Relationships International and pay a registration fee to them in the amount of $630.  Click Here to request the registration information.  And the balance of $1780 is paid directly to your instructor, Maya Kollman.  Maya offers a payment plan of $890 and $890, with each payment due before the beginning of Session 2 and Session 3.
