Clinical Training: Working
with the Individual

Please note that this is a mentoring program. Based on the candidates
strengths and weaknesses, candidates may be required to do additional
coursework.
Certification Permissions:
Graduates may:
represent
themselves publicly as a Certified Clinical Instructor of Imago
Relationship Therapy and as faculty of The Institute for Imago
Relationship Therapy;
conduct
training programs leading to participant's certification as Imago
Therapists;
be
eligible to receive referrals from the Institute for clinical
training programs after certification;
serve
as on-site observers for Workshop Presenters Candidates;
attend
all Clinical Instructors training days at no additional charge.
Admission Requirements:
Applicants must:
have
practiced Imago Relationship Therapy with couples for at least
three years since completion of the Basic Clinical Training course
work;
have
conducted Couples' Workshops regularly for one year after certification
as a Couples' Workshop Presenter;
attended
the Preparation for Committed Partnership: Singles Clinical Training
course and the Advanced Clinical Supervision course;
submit
two VHS video tapes to the Course Instructor three weeks prior
to the first day of training. (The first video tape must show
applicant's work as a presenter/teacher taped in front of an
audience within the last twelve months. The second videotape
must be a recent, one-hour long therapy session with a couple
from their practice.)
assist
a Certified Clinical Instructor(s) with one session of a Basic
Clinical Training course (one entire 3-5 day session) and give
a lecture on Imago Relationship Therapy. A positive evaluation
from the Certified Clinical Instructor(s) must be submitted to
the assigned Master Trainer or Master Trainer Candidate prior
to the beginning of the first training apprenticeship;
be
in good standing with IIRT and AIRT;
complete
a Clinical Instructors Registration form including a recent 3x5
photo and a $500 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit. At
that time, applicants will be interviewed prior to the first
day of training. Contact the Professional Training Coordinator
at IIRT to set up this interview.
Course Requirements:
During the formal course work, the Clinical Instructor Candidate
must:
complete
an apprenticeship in two consecutive clinical training programs
presented by two different Master Trainers (apprenticeships may
not overlap);
read
the assigned bibliography;
attend six one-day Clinical Instructor training sessions prior
to all sessions of both clinical training courses;
execute a Clinical Instructors contract with IIRT;
complete all apprenticeship requirements with a positive evaluation
by both Master Trainers. Copies of these evaluations must be
submitted to IIRT.
Post Course Requirements:
Within 24 months of the completion of the formal course work,
the Clinical Instructor Candidate must:
teach no more than TWO clinical training programs. The second
course must be observed on-site and evaluated by a Certified
Master Trainer or Master Trainer Candidate. A positive evaluation
from the Certified Master Trainer or Master Trainer Candidate
must be submitted to IIRT and the Course Instructor(s). (Note:
travel expenses are to be paid by the Clinical Instructor Candidate,
plus an honorarium of $500 for a minimum of five hours of observation);
design a course curriculum, including a detailed manuscript of
lectures, therapy processes and procedures, as well as supervision,
evaluation models, processes and a bibliography.
(Note: a detailed manuscript
of lectures and therapy processes must be submitted by the candidate
to one of the Course Instructor(s) prior to scheduling the first
training program. Participants may obtain certification through
these programs only if the Clinical Instructor candidate has
completed all previously stated requirements and has submitted
a course curriculum.)
receive positive recommendations following an oral exam by a
committee of three Master Trainers.
Maintaining Certification:
To maintain certification, Certified Clinical Instructors must:
be members of IIRT and AIRT, in good standing;
attend the annual Clinical Instructors update meeting as scheduled
by IIRT.
lead at least one clinical training program every two years.
If the Clinical Instructor is
inactive for two years, they must attend and assist at a Basic
Clinical Course taught by a Master Trainer and receive a positive
evaluation.
CE Credits: Available
Approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) for
continuing education credit through the Institute for Imago Relationship
Therapy.
